SUNUNU BLOCKED VETERANS FROM RECEIVING ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE, REJECTED INCREASED FUNDING FOR THE VA EIGHT MINUTES LATER

(Manchester, NH) - In addition to his many votes against funding for veterans' health care, John E. Sununu also voted to prevent veterans from accessing health care by rejecting a measure to help the VA clear the backlog of pending claims for benefits. Just eight minutes later, Sununu voted against increased funding for VA facilities.

In Their Pocket

Yesterday, a group of concerned citizens gathered in Manchester for a unique visibility on the high price of gas and Sununu's record of fighting to protect tax breaks for oil and gas companies. Exxon Mobil reported $10.7 billion in profits this quarter, but just four months ago, Sununu cast the deciding vote to protect $13 billion in tax subsidies for them and other oil companies instead of extending those tax breaks to renewable energy.

Fox News from Boston joined the group in Manchester yesterday and aired a segment on the issue on the five o'clock news:

A group of concerned citizens gathered in Manchester today for a unique visibility to spread awareness about the high price of gas and Senator John E. Sununu Watch: Sununu is one of the least powerful senators

Congress.org's annual report on the 100 most powerful senators was released this week, and John E. Sununu found himself right where we expected: at the bottom looking up. Sununu ranks 89th among his 99 colleagues, a few notches better than Larry Craig, but below all other New England senators. Granite Staters already know that Sununu doesn't have a presence in New Hampshire; now they have confirmation that he isn't making an impact in Washington, either. He's not showing up in New Hampshire and isn't getting anything done in Washington - just what is John E. Sununu doing in the U.S. Senate?

Senator Sunuwho? Sununu’s Real Record on Foreign Policy

On March 6, Senator John E. Sununu will deliver an address, “Toward a Safer World: How the International Community Could Work Better to Prevent and Resolve Global Conflicts,” at a conference sponsored by the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.

It’s instructive that Sununu is giving this speech at Johns Hopkins, the school whose former dean is former Bush Deputy Defense Secretary and architect of the mismanaged war in Iraq, Paul Wolfowitz. Sununu’s steadfast support of the Bush administration’s reckless approach to international affairs helped lead our country into one of the worst foreign policy crises in recent history. As a result of Sununu’s willful compliance with that policy, the world is less safe, global conflicts are increasing, and the United States’ standing in the international community is at an all-time low. Sununu’s actions over the course of the past six years provide a case study in what NOT to do in the effort to prevent and resolve global conflicts.

Sununu vs. Bernanke

Today, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Ben Bernanke said that more should be done to reduce foreclosures and thereby “promote economic stability for households, neighborhoods, and the nation as a whole.”
